Protecting Natural and Cultural Resources

With a focus on recreation, safety, and education

Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) may be best know as the group that issues hunting and fishing licenses in Illinois, its mission and activities go well beyond that. IDNR manages, protects and sustains Illinois' natural and cultural resources; provides resource-compatible recreational opportunities; and promotes natural resource-related issues for the public's safety and education.

IDNR is an active partner in Kicking Bear Camp for Kids. IDNR provides its conservation truck with many wildlife exhibits and information, plus an IDNR officer for the duration of the camp. The officer accompanies the children on nature walks and provides safety, gaming, and conservation instruction.

To learn more about the IDNR, visit their website at, which includes links to state parks, state museums, and many other recreational activities.
